About Maritime Museum of Tasmania

Located in the picturesque Sullivans Cove of Hobart, Tasmania, is the Maritime Museum of Tasmania. It honours and celebrates Tasmania’s rich history with its close relationship to ships, boat-building, and maritime life. Visitors can explore centuries’ worth of stories capturing this enduring connection between Tasmanians and the sea.

Located on the scenic Sullivan’s Cove, the Maritime Museum of Tasmania celebrates our island state’s vibrant seafaring heritage. With interactive stories from fishermen and their families and artefacts from a staggering 15 wrecks, visitors can explore how colonial outpost Tasmania transformed into an industrial hub for apples and timber – all while learning about just how treacherous these waters can be! Listen to accounts of life at sea whilst paying your respects to Southern right whales that were once so plentiful but sadly no longer call this place home.
